Every time the income looks real short and the pantry is bare, someone always comes in and reminds us that what we do is very important:
Christmas 2005...
During the 2005 Christmas Season a young mother of six came to pick up her monthly food box and expressed that she had no job and nothing for her children for Christmas. We had just received some second hand donations and invited her in the back to take a look. She and her children shopped in the back found toys, clothes, and games. They all left thanking us because we made a very Merry Christmas for her family. “One man's trash is another's treasure!”
Helping a Veteran...
A two time Viet Nam Vet came into our facility for food…in the process of signing him up to receive food from our facility we discovered that he was homeless, had just been robbed and needed a place to stay. We found him a place at the Salvation Army for that night and transported him to the Veteran's Administration the next morning to get his medication and they found him a permanent place to stay. He returned to our office and thanked us for taking the time to help him, because he had nowhere else to go. Since then he has come to volunteer his time and to offer help and guidance to others.
